Overview:

This position is with NCIRE-The Veterans Health Research Institute, working in the laboratory of an Assistant Professor of Surgery from UCSF (University of California, San Francisco), Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.  The laboratory is located at the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

 

The Research Scholar/postdoctoral will be performing work within  the lab headed by a faculty member of UCSF's Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and will be involved in studying both molecular and biophysical mechanisms of heart failure, and novel surgical, molecular and cellular interventions for tissue regeneration/reconstruction.



Responsibilities:

The incumbent will conduct research experiments related to signal transduction and myocardial infarction.   Conduct cell biological research experiments using both human and animal tissues Perform histology techniques including tissue processing (fixing tissue, embedding, sectioning, staining, etc.); immunohistochemistry.  Perform molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including PCR, Western analysis, ELISA, TUNEL assay, and FACS analysis.  Prepare cell cultures, including preparation and maintenance of bone marrow stem cells from mice. Perform data analysis and documentation.



Qualifications:

Candidates must hold the Ph.D. or equivalent degree. He/she must have experience in using rodents as experimental model. Minority applicants are encouraged to apply.
